The following critique is all just my own opinions given my play experience

Pros:

  • Excellent presentation
    • Art is extremely polished
    • Soundtrack fits the game perfectly and isn’t annoying
    • Gameplay signifiers are very clear (with one exception)
  • The game concept is extremely cool and original
  • The level design is conceptually good
  • The tutorial legit feels like it belongs to a professional game

Cons:

The level design is far too demanding of the player. Challenging level design isn’t an inherent issue, however, this game’s lives system makes it a big one. The fact that they player does not even get to retry at the beginning of the level but has to restart the entire game once they die too many times would lead to a very frustrating play experience with modest level design.

Coupled with the challenging level design, the lives problem becomes much worse, and leads to any small issues that the player might experience with the levels or mechanics (like the counter-intuitiveness of the folding) to feed into the larger systemic issue of the lives system, leading to a lot of frustration.

Despite all of my issues, I still found myself enjoying this game a decent amount given I am fairly experienced with platformers, and I truly believe if the lives issue was fixed and if the game eased the player into the harder level design better, it would be an amazing game.  Sorry for the essay. - Elias
